In March 2023, the project was approved through the Province’s rigorous Environmental Assessment process (EA), which includes a comprehensive analysis of the potential environmental impacts of the project. Strum Consulting is successfully guiding the process and has conducted a series of detailed studies including:
The Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm team has collaborated with Membertou Geomatics Solutions, who were contracted to complete Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Studies (MEKS) to ensure the EA is informed by and inclusive of the Mi’Kmaq perspectives on the proposed land base. EA activities were completed and submitted to the province in January 2023.
The team is also undertaking additional field studies and a mainland moose monitoring plan as suggested by KMKNO – the Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn Negotiation Office (Mi’kmaq Rights Initiative).
